Check out this funky remix from Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band of Ghana by way of Detroit Swindle, now out from our friends at Strut Records! Purchase and support here.
Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band recently toured with their new studio album ‘Obiaa ‘ which featured the great Tony Allen and the incredible Ebo Taylor.
Both the Guardian and the Times were in raptures. The highlife singer rose to fame in his native Ghana in the genre’s 70s/ 80s peak, he’s found a new audience in Europe over the past few years.
Strut Records have been at the heart of this sound, bringing the style to a wider Western audience.
On this single Detroit Swindle meet the legendary Ghanaian singer Pat Thomas, aka ‘the Golden Voice of Africa’ on ‘Yamona’, which is from the recent album.
The Dutch duo and Heist label bosses combine their love of electronic music, disco and world grooves for a sumptuous remix, breaking the track down to its constituent parts to build a soulful Afro-disco groove based around bubbling synth bass, choppy percussion and lush chords. The perfect balance between rich African melodies and late night club production.
