Friend of the brand, Paul DeFiglia, a Nashville-based musician, producer, arranger, and engineer debuts his solo release, In Daylight, with a vinyl pre-order and digital download, featuring guest performances by Scott & Seth Avett (The Avett Brothers), Erin Rae, Mat Davidson (Twain, Big Thief), Adam McBride-Smith, Malachi DeLorenzo (Langhorne Slim), and more!
The album was recorded this summer in DeFiglia’s Nashville studio, Daylight, recorded to 2-inch tape, including remote contributions. His approach to musicality in his production, playing, and engineering are a testament to the warm, analog mechanisms of creating music and recording them to tape. The
album’s 11 cover songs are an impeccable selection spanning folk traditionals, jazz standards, and lesser known or rarely covered tracks from more contemporary artists like Nick Drake, Beck, Caetano Veloso, and Fiona Apple. In Daylight establishes the voice of the studio through DeFiglia as producer, player, singer, arranger, and mixing engineer.
“I began recording this album as a way of staying sane during the early COVID onset,” says DeFiglia. “I was trying to figure out how to keep the project on tape while including input from outside musicians, when I made a breakthrough.” DeFiglia adds, “I learned how to sync their remotely-recorded parts to tape, giving me the semblance of musical interaction that I had been craving during quarantine.”
In Daylight is available for vinyl pre-order with digital download via Bandcamp for $44 plus shipping and sales tax. Shipment and delivery of the vinyl record is expected for spring 2021, in time for Record Store Day in mid-April 2021. For more information go to www.PaulDeFiglia.com.
